Carl Sez!

I have received several emails concerned about the recent rash of earthquakes in Oklahoma and inquiring as to how I am doing. As of right now I'm fine - just a little rattled!!!

Oklahoma is not known for being in an earthquake zone. We are known as the tornado alley of the US. Well, let me tell you ... WE ARE HAVING BOTH!!!!! I have never seen such conditions!

Saturday morning early we were rudly awaken to the shaking of a 4.7 earthquake. Then Saturday night shortly after 11 pm we were shaken out of bed by a much larger quake - this time a 5.6 magnitude. The house rattled good with this one.

Monday saw severe weather move into the state. Tornados, which are usually confined to the summer months, developed in the southwest and moved northeastward across the state. It is reported they sometimes reached an EF3 or 4 level. Fortunately no towns were hit - just rural areas. Some homes were damaged or destroyed, but no injuries or deaths occurred.

Then, as the storms were beginning to pass through the central part of the state (OKC area) about 8:15 pm, ANOTHER 4.7 earthqauke hit the area. This one was not as loud or bad as the one Saturday night, but still it was nerve rattling. All the tremors were located or centered about 35 miles to the northeast of me (Midwest City).

Tuesday morning found the rain and storms moving eastward away from central Oklahoma, but now a forecast is for SNOW in the panhandle today and tonight and the temperatures have dropped here. It is presently only 49 degrees.

Other than having some frayed nerves, I'm happy to report to everyone that Pat and I are doing fine.

Thanks to everyone for the concern for our safety and well-being.

Carl
