WEATHERFORD — Dora Dean Stockon

Dora Dean Stockon, 81, peacefully went to her home in Heaven Saturday morning, Jan. 29, 2011. She was surrounded by her beloved husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her Aledo home.

As expressed by her family, Dora’s most enduring quality was her selflessness. Dora consistently placed the needs of her family above her own. Her heart’s desire was to provide for and nurture her children and grandchildren and see them grow into persons of character. This desire was evidently realized when Dora saw her own values mirrored in her children and grandchildren.

Dora is described as humble but dignified, nurturing but strong-willed. There was comfort and warmth in the touch of her hand. By her hands, her family was clothed, and with her hands she fervently prayed for her family.

Dora was born May 30, 1929, in Osage, Oklahoma, to Lewis LaFayette Powell and Rosa May McAmis. She was a seamstress.

Survivors are her husband Gerald Eugene Stockon; eight children, Patricia Ann Green and her husband, Clyde, of Cushing, Oklahoma, Garland Rex Hecox and his wife, Susan, of West Siloam, Oklahoma, Billie Raymond Hecox Jr. and Deborah of Kansas, Oklahoma, Debbie Louise Jacobs and her husband, Leon, of Aledo, Texas, Pamela Jane Atkinson and her husband, Rick, of Aledo, Texas, Sherry Kay Peredes and her husband, Michael, of Aledo, Texas, Jerry Ray Stockon and his wife, Deneise, of Aledo, Texas, and Candace Lynn Lang and her husband, Paul, of Fort Worth, Texas; thirty-two grandchildren; forty-four great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Dora was preceded in death by her three brothers, Walter Raymond Powell, John Delbert Powell and Louis A. Powell; her three sisters, Goldie May Hunt, Sylvia Noami Taylor and Betty Jo Crain; her daughter, Twilla Sue Hecox; her grandson, Kristopher Layne McBrayer; and her great granddaughter Jayden Danielle Gonzales.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in the Cotten-Bratton Funeral Chapel. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the First Baptist Church of Aledo. Funeral Home
