Elizabeth McLean McBrayer Finley

1919-2011


ELIZABETH McBRAYER FINLEY, 92, of Cary, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at WakeMed Cary Hospital.

Elizabeth was born January 24, 1919 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Hugh Dougald McLean and Susie McDonald Bacon McLean. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh and was employed with NC State University retiring with over 25 years of service. Elizabeth was a longtime resident of Woodland Terrace. Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. McBrayer; and her second husband, Col. George A. Finley, retired.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Nanza M. Bynum (Jim) of Cary; and Beth M. Johnston (Bill) of Pine Knoll Shores; grandchildren, Laura Johnston Gaston (Hal) of Holly Springs; and Scott McBrayer Johnston (Abby) of Raleigh; great grandchildren, Brice Davis; Hunter Davis; Henry Johnston; Miles Johnston.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. A private family graveside will be held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh. The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 120 W. Hargett Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.
