Janice Lee McKillup McBrayer
1939-2010
(Can anyone identify the James Dean McBrayer mentioned in the following obituary?)
Janice Lee McBrayer Memorial services for Janice Lee McBrayer, 71, of Killeen, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights with Father Richard O'Roarke officiating. Mrs. McBrayer died Feb. 14, 2010, at her home.
She was born Jan. 19, 1939, in Carlisle, Pa., to Preston and Rose Marie McKillup. She grew up in a military family, along with her best girlfriend and sister, Joyce, and lived throughout the world. She graduated from high school in Tombstone, Ariz., in 1957. After graduation, she married at the age of 19 and had three sons, whom she loved dearly, during her first marriage. She ultimately settled in Killeen, where she raised her family and married James Dean McBrayer in 1984.
Her marriage to Jim gave her Lisa, the daughter she had always wanted. She remained a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother until her death.
She was the tea lady at Picadilly Cafeteria in Killeen. She took great pride in her job and liked meeting people through work. She had an unfailing sense of humor and always tried to make others laugh.
Mrs. McBrayer was a woman of strong faith, and never doubted God's love even in the midst of the most difficult times. She spent the last 14 months of her life at Indian Oaks Nursing Home. She was very fond of the staff there and most appreciative of the compassionate care she received.
Survivors include her husband, James Dean McBrayer; three sons, Craig Alan Higgins of Killeen, Tod Anthony Higgins of Killeen and Sean James Higgins of Austin; one daughter, Lisa Renee Garner of Augusta, Ga.; her father, Preston McKillup of San Antonio; a sister, Joyce Ellen Henry of San Antonio; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Marie McKillup.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mission Soup Kitchen, 205 W. Avenue C, Killeen, TX or the Paralyzed Veterans Association. Chisholm's Funeral Home and Florist in Copperas Cove is in charge of arrangements.
