Marie Garity, age 88, passed away June 11, 2010.
She was born in Olivet on December 11, 1921 to Scott and Henrietta (Ely) Love. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1941.
Marie married Jim McBrayer in February of 1944 which ended in divorce. She married Tom Garity on May 18, 1954.
Marie is survived by daughter, Sonja (Patrick) Thompson of Bellevue; one grandson whom she raised, Ronald McBrayer (Linda Gay) of Nashville; five grandsons, Richard (Janiece) Little of Eaton Rapids, Gregory (Sabrina) Little of Nashville, Jamie Little of Nashville, David McBrayer; two granddaughters, Shannon Bartholomew, Chris McBrayer; great grandson, Heath (Cassandra) McBrayer of Lansing; two stepchildren, Thomas F. Garity of Charlotte, Lynda (Rex) Greene of Bellevue; five step grandchildren and many many great grandchildren; brothers, Willard (Vivian) Love of Bellevue, sisters, Margaret Halsey of Osseo, Charlotte Swartz of Bellevue, Phyllis (Don) Jones of Beaumont, California; sisters-in-law, Eldonna Love of Bellevue, Ardith Beauchamp of Carol Stream, Illinois, Lois Guthrey of Grand Rapids, Marion Goris of Nashville, Jean Carnell of Kalamazoo; brother-in-law, Hugh (Ann) Garity of Bellevue; many special nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Tom Garity; sons, Kenneth McBrayer Sr., Donald Garity; grandson whom she raised, Kenneth McBrayer Jr.; brothers, Owen, Herbert, Wilbur, Ned and Jack Love; sisters, Eleanor Stampfler and Eloise (Hadley) Dahn. Marie worked at Townsends Restaurant, Battle Creek Sanitarium and the Kellogg Company, retiring in 1987 after 42 years of service. She was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club.
Marie had a special love of helping family and friends; taking them to appointments and the beauty salon or whatever they needed. She enjoyed doing ceramics for over 30 years. She liked to knit, and crochet. She also loved traveling and camping in earlier years. But what she loved the most was being with family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4:00 p.m. and 6 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue. Services will take place 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Bellevue First Baptist Church with Pastor Don Francis officiating. Interment, Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
