Michael Eugene Jones

1941-2010

Michael Eugene Jones, age 68, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, May 3, 2010, at the Mercy Health Center.

He was born Oct. 27, 1941, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Carlton U. and Athlene M. Christensen Jones.

He graduated from the Morocco High School, Mocorro, IN, and in 1998 he graduated and from the Fort Scott Community College.

He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving with the U.S. Marines.

He worked as a corrections officer for the Florida Department of Corrections.

Michael was a member of the National Honor Society, and a mentor for immigrants.

He was interested in drama, and had a passion for writing, especially poetry.

Survivors include three daughters, Carla Jones, Seattle, Wash.; Samantha Jones, Atlanta, Ga.; and Celisa Jones Burton, Memphis area.

He is also survived by two sisters, Angela S. Jones and Juanita R. Beck, of Fort Scott, and two brothers, Jonathan E. Jones and Arthur A. Jones.

Also surviving are three grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton and Athlene Jones, and one brother, Paul Jones.

Following cremation, the family will hold private memorial services.

Memorials are suggested to a Michael Jones Memorial Fund and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
