Ruth E. McBrayer

1918-2011


It is believed the John Edgar McBrayer listed in the obituary was born in 1906 in WV, the son of William Green and Mary Jane Helwig McBrayer. Ruth was apparently his second wife. She was married previously to a "Lester" with whom she had the children.

Obituary

On Wednesday, May 4th, 2011, Ruth E. McBrayer, 92 of Justice, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, from her residence.

Born on June 2, 1918, at Iaeger, she was the daughter of the late Bertha Godfrey Cooper.

In addition to her mother Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Edgar McBrayer; her maternal grandparents, Bailey and Rachael Godfrey; and three infant children.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend. She was of the Baptist faith and was a retired business owner and operator. She also worked at Billie Ann’s Restaurant in Gilbert where she greeted everyone with her warm and wonderful smile. Ruth loved people and loved spending time visiting with them and she loved being with her wonderful family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.


Those left to love and cherish the memory of her and to mourn her passing include her three daughters: Jean Allen of Justice, Lynda (Charles) Boldin of Glasgow KY, and Jewell (James) Lively of Hanover; her six sons: French Archie (Addie) Lester of Jacksonville NC, Gerald (Myrtle) Lester of Baisden, Roger (Dorothy) Lester of Maryville TN, Michael (Reda) Lester of Harmony NC, Fred Lester of Chicago Ridge Ill., and Jack (Tonya) McBrayer of Williamson; her ten grandchildren: Rene’ Philpott, Jerry Allen, Archie Dale Lester, Barry Lester, Gracie Ruth “Karen” Imhof, Angela Sims, Delinda Blakely, Scott Lester, Gregory Lester, and Derek Riffe; her seven step-grandchildren: Tony West, Lynn Belcher, Pam Highlander, Russell Lester, Kevin Bailey, Greg Bailey, and Tracy Hight; her fifteen great-grandchildren; her special caregivers: Sue Addair and Jody Addair; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Friends may gather with the family at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Saturday, May 7th from 6 pm to 9 pm with funeral services being held at 7 pm with Dr. Jerry Rose and Rev. Jackie Lester officiating.

She will be taken to her final resting place at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell on Sunday, May 8th with committal service at 1 pm.

Her family and friends will carry Ruth to her final resting place.

Honorary pallbearers are: Big Jim Hatfield, Donnie Smith, and James H. “Buck” Harless.

She is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
