Our family lost at least two members to the April 27, 2011 tornados that struck with such fury in the south - Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Below are two of those family members who lost that lives on that fateful, destructive day. There may be others that we don't know about at this time. (This was a mother and son from Higdon, AL. They were of the line of Thomas Jefferson McBryar, the son of William and Sarah Dye McBrayer. She was the daughter of Raymond "Jack" McBryar, the son of Joseph Wheeler McBryar, the son of Thomas Jefferson McBryar.)

HIGDON Jewell Elizabeth Tinker Ewing, 73, passed away, Wednesday, April 27, 2011. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, a homemaker, and a member of Porter Road Church of God.She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Ewing; parents, Jack and Lorene McBryar; sister, Betty Sue Smith; brother, Fred McBryar; son, Terry Tinker; granddaughter, Denise Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Pat (Chris) Brown; stepdaughter, Rose Ewing; son, Donnie Tinker and step-son, Dale Ewing; sisters, Verda Ridge, Evelyn Ewing, Joyce Manis; brothers, Sherman McBryar and Cecil McBryar; granddaughter, Cheryl Smith; great-grandchildren, Cole and David Spurgeon, Stephanie Walker.Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. EDT today, May 1, at the Moore Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ernest Lamb and Tommy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.Visitation will be held noon-4 EDT today at Moore Funeral Home.Arrangements made by Moore Funeral Home.
